About Ben

Ben McCretton was born in South Shields, a town located in South Tyneside, a county within Tyne & Wear, North East England.

From an early age Ben quickly developed a keen interest in music, learning the oboe as a first instrument professionally while also dabbling with the piano in music class. Once in the teen phase, he realised the guitar was “where it was all at” and learnt how to play rhythm guitar. He joined a local band and played a few pubs here and there as well as busker nights. When he hit 17 he started to write music primarily on the acoustic guitar. He went away to Australia and lived there for seven months, coming back with further songs. Ben’s first band formed was called The Jarrovians which was put together with some friends where he began to write more ‘rock oriented’ songs.

Fast forward to today, Ben writes fiction (mainly thriller, horror and fantasy) and tinkers with abstract art in his spare time, as well as continues to play acoustic guitar and electric guitar. He can also play the piano and bass guitar utilising them in his own music.
